Updated: Jan 31

Germany is the education hub, well-known for its academic excellence and various work opportunities in different sectors. Its multicultural society fosters a welcoming and inclusive environment, which makes it easier for international students to adapt and thrive in a new country. Germany offers a thriving and highly regarded nursing sector, providing excellent opportunities for those pursuing a career in healthcare. The German government has recently declared the creation of an additional 13,000 positions within hospitals and care facilities. However, there continues to be a shortage of trained medical personnel. Germany is coping with a significant deficiency in healthcare staff, resulting in numerous hospitals being affected. At present, the nursing industry in the country comprises approximately 1 million individuals.

v It is estimated that by 2060 Germany requires approximately 3 million nurses due to its aging population. Towards the end of 2015, the number of individuals requiring care stood at 2.9 million, and it is expected to rise to 4.1 million by 2030. This indicates a considerable increase in the demand for healthcare services and further emphasizes the need for a larger nursing workforce in the country.

v At present, nursing positions in Germany experience the longest average duration of being unfilled, standing at 171 days, which is the highest among all professions.

v The number of individuals in need of old-age care is consistently increasing, and this upward trend is predicted to persist until 2060.

v Over the years, the proportion of Geriatric Nurses from other countries has been steadily increasing and currently stands at 11 percent.
